Constitution Park: A Community Treasure
The History
Beyond its natural beauty, Constitution Park offers extensive recreational amenities, including ball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, a playground, a dog park, and a new pickleball court. It also serves as the venue for the town’s annual 4th of July fireworks.
By 2021, the trails had fallen into disrepair, and many residents were unaware of their existence. In response, a group of concerned citizens, led by Mount Washington Valley Age-Friendly Outdoor Spaces Chair Edwina Boose, launched an effort to restore the park. With support from the Parks and Recreation Director, Town Manager, Public Works crew, and approval from the Selectmen and Conservation Commission, the project received a small grant from NHAARP and mobilized 18 volunteers from five towns to clear trails, update maps, install signage and kiosks, and create scenic viewing spots overlooking a bog and Ossipee Lake.
To sustain this momentum, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, Friends of Constitution Park, Ossipee, was formed in 2021. By spring 2022, with generous financial and in-kind support from residents and local businesses, the group installed a 9-hole disc golf course. In just six months, 17 volunteers contributed over 1,600 hours of labor to bring the course to life, which was unveiled at a community celebration during Party in the Park.
