Deer Run All-Accessible Trail: Coming in 2025

Deer Run Boardwalk Trail
Thanks to incredible support from our community, donors, and grantmakers, we’re thrilled to announce that FCPO has raised the full $206,000 needed to restore the Deer Run Boardwalk Trail—and construction is set to begin in Spring 2025!
Fully Accessible
Once ADA-compliant in 1995, this beloved .23-mile trail winds through lush woodlands and wetlands and leads to a rare public view of Ossipee Lake, the sixth largest lake in New Hampshire. Over time, the trail became overgrown and unsafe. Now, with a new vision and full funding, Deer Run will be reborn as a fully accessible, all-ages trail that meets Forest Service Accessibility Guidelines and ADA standards.
Mission & Values
Next Steps
FCPO has contracted with Sam Brakeley of Hermit Woods Trail Builders, a trusted expert in accessible trail construction throughout New England. Sam and his team bring deep knowledge of both ADA and ABA technical standards, ensuring the trail is built with precision and care.
Construction will include:
- Professional trail grading and compacted gravel (ledge pack) along the path leading to and from the boardwalk
- Dismantling and replacing the existing boardwalk within its current footprint
- Installation of rest areas along the trail, including a scenic stop at the shore of Ossipee Lake
- Full accessibility for mobility devices, strollers, and caregivers

This project is part of FCPO’s mission to create an inclusive, interactive, and welcoming trail system in Constitution Park. With the median age in Ossipee nearing 55 and a lack of accessible outdoor options, the new Deer Run Trail will help bridge generations, abilities, and experiences—giving everyone a chance to connect with nature.
“We look forward to further partnership and support as they rebuild the boardwalk trail that will enable visitors of all ages and abilities to access and enjoy this special place.”
